About the Board

The Northwest Territories Water Board was established under Section 7 of the Northern Inland Waters Act which was proclaimed on February 28, 1972. The NWT Water Board held its founding meeting in Yellowknife, NT on April 18,1972.

The Northern Inland Waters Act and Regulations were replaced with the Northwest Territories Waters Act and Regulations on June 23, 1992. The Board maintains two offices, the main office in Inuvik NT and a small office in Yellowknife NT.
